About

About us
The residents of the Hilton Slum, reside on the edges of Nakuru’s local rubbish dump. The community experiences poor health, poverty and high levels of unemployment. The levels of unemployment have remained high and all government run schools require regular fees which are beyond the means of the locals.
The Walk Centre began in April 2005 in order to cater for the needs of the local Hilton Slum, Nakuru, Kenya. Alex and Patricia Maina, both teachers by trade and respected members of the community, identified the needs of the slum and gave up their jobs to establish and run The Walk Centre.
The Walk Centre provides the children with a basic education, regular meals and emotional support. We also provide financial assistance to the locals to enable access to medical care, food and basic housing maintenance.
